What Is a Metal Straightening Machine?
The Straightening machine is a mechanical device which is used for the purpose of straightening and deformation of rolled, drawn or extruded metals. The machine has a stand, two clamping heads and a mechanism for moving the working head. The hydraulically driven working head consists of a fixed top and a moveable bottom plate. A hydraulic cylinder moves the working head between these plates, and the work is performed by the friction between them.
The main function of the Straightening machine is to provide the required straightness to the material that has been produced from the rolled coil. It also helps to remove the coil set that develops in the process of rolling and drawing. This can cause problems with the production of the product. It can jam the press, result in bad parts and even lead to downtime for the production facility. These problems can be prevented by running the coil through a quality straightener or corrective leveler.
In order to avoid excessive penetration of the rollers, a straightener usually contains multiple pairs of work rolls. The first pair of work rollers apply a large bending moment to the material, while the second pair provides a softer, smoother action that helps the materials achieve their desired flatness. The final pair of work rolls provide a finishing action to the material, helping it reach its final straightness and eliminating any traces of residual material on the leading or trailing end of the tube or pipe.
Depending on the width of the material and the maximum capacity of the Straightening machine, back-up rollers are located one, two or three times across the width of the work rollers. Generally, the back-up rollers are positioned close to the end journals and bearings that support the work rollers, minimizing the stress and potential deflection of the work rolls during straightening operations.
It is important to remember that the quality of the metal being straightened is determined by the plastic deformation which occurs during the straightening process. The percentage of this plastic deformation is referred to as the plastic ratio. A high plastic ratio results in a better quality of straightened material.
A straightening iron’s plates are usually either ceramic or tourmaline, which makes them super smooth and quiet as they glide over your hair. Look for plates that are at least 1-inch wide to accommodate larger sections of hair (a good rule of thumb is an inch or more at the ends). This will allow you to straighten a greater amount of your hair in less time. Also, make sure that your hair is completely dry before using a straightener, and that you use a heat-protective spray to prevent damage. Finally, you should always start with the bottom layers of your hair and work your way up to the crown. This will help to reduce the risk of heat damage and keep your hair looking shiny and healthy.
